NJCAA Region 10 Tournament schedule set

NJCAA Region 10 Tournament schedule set

The state's six members of NJCAA Region 10 are paired against each other in three first-round games of the region's Division I championship tournament beginning May 5 in Lexington.

The addition of Gaston College this season has returned the region to eight teams, ending the need for a first-round bye in the double-elimination event.

Regular-season champ Florence-Darlington Tech will play 8th seed USC Salkehatchie in the fourth game of opening day at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

No. 3 USC Sumter meets No. 6 USC Union to open the tournament at 9 a.m. That is followed by No. 2 Gaston College against No. 7 Louisburg at 12:30 p.m. No. 4 Spartanburg Methodist plays fifth-seeded USC Lancaster at 4 p.m.

The event continues with four games on both May 6 and 7. There are two games set for May 8, with an additional game set for May 9 if there are two teams left with one loss after May 8.

Game 10 will be played before Game 9 on May 7 to avoid having the loser of the final game on May 6 play the first game the following day.

As regular-season champion, Florence-Darlington Tech is assured of a berth in the four-team East District Tournament later in May. The Region 10 Tournament champ - or runner-up if the Stingers win the tournament, too - also qualifies for the district district tournament. The East District champion advances to the Junior College World Series later this year.
