Lancers vs Fire Ants Weekend Series Recap

On Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, the USC Lancaster Lancers hosted the USC Sumter Fire Ants in a weekend series.
In game one, the Lancers beat the Fire Ants in a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sam Nienow singled to left field, going one for one, scoring Kaden Bairon and winning the game.
Some of the standout hitters of game one were catcher Aaron Gilden, who went one for three with one home run and three RBIs, along with Braden Mauro and Scott Henry who both went two for three each hitting a double.
Gilden's homerun accounted for half of the team's total RBIs.
Defensive standouts were pitcher Nathan Kirouac, who closed the game and pitched 45 pitches, 28 of them being strikes. Kirouac only gave up two hits and one run, limiting Fire Ant damage.
Starting pitcher Franklin Fernandez also had a well-rounded game, striking out three batters with 41 out of 68 pitches being strikes.
The team only acquired one error during game one.

In game two, Lancaster fell short to Sumter after facing two 30-minute lightning delays and rain.
Lancaster only aquired five hits in the second game, three of which belong to offensive standout Zach West. West went three for four with two runs, including a homerun, and two RBIs. He recorded over half of the team's hits and all of the team's RBIs.
Although the defense did not perform as high in game two as they did in game two, the Lancer pitching staff still pitched roughly 60% strikes within the four pitchers.

On Sunday in game three, the USCL Lancers recorded three homeruns, by players Gilden, West and Ayden Ray.
Gilden went two for five, and West went two for four, recording 2 RBIs each. Sebastian Cazorla also had an efficient day, going two for three and scoring a run.
Pitcher Cam Towell had a good day at the mound, holding Sumter to zero walks and one hit, being the only pitcher of the day to do so.
