Volleyball Loses Home Opener

Last night the Lancers lost their home opener to region opponent Davidson County Community College 22-25, 17-25, and 19-25. The Lancers were led by Paige Davis who had 11 kills, 2 blocks and an ace. Allison Floyd added 8 kills and an ace. Sophomore setter Sarah Moore had 29 assists and an Ace. Libero Jalaya Westfield led the defense with 14 digs. The Lancers have a region home game this Friday against Fayetteville Tech. at 6pm. Read more.

Lancers Volleyball Opens Season at Sparatanbug Methodist Invitational

The Lancers opened their season Friday afternoon with a 1-3 loss against USC Union. The Lancers dropped the first set 16-25 then rallied to win the second set 25-16, lost a close 24-26 third set before losing in the fourth set 19-25. Freshman MB Payton Evans led the Lancers with 9 kills, 2 Aces, 1 block and 17 digs. Sophomore setter Sarah Moore added 30 assists, 2 aces and 12 digs.

Friday evening, the Lancers lost 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 20-25) to Region 10 opponent Bryant and Stratton (VA). Freshman OH/MB Paige Davis led the Lancers with 7 kills, 3 blocks and an ace.

Saturday morning, the Lancers dropped three sets to Region 10 new comer Sandhills Community College 18-25, 18-25, 15-25. Payton Evans led with 7 kills, a block and 2 aces. Freshman Emily Webster had 4 kills, an ace, and 6 digs.

Saturday afternoon, the Lancers lost in three to traditional powerhouse and tournament champion Spartanburg Methodist College 7-25, 16-25, 9-25. Freshman Lexi Sullivan added 4 kills, 6 digs and a block.

"We were hoping for a better weekend" says first year coach, Mike Van Lieu. "We're a young team and a little thin in numbers." The Lancers feature seven freshman and one sophomore, "We showed great moments of our potential where we're battling and competing point for point but now we just have to string those moments together for a whole match and finish. Overall we needed the experience and competition from the past weekend, I think we learned a lot about where we are as a team and what we need to do to improve."

The Lancers open Region play this week at home against Davidson County CC on Wednesday at 6pm and Friday against Fayetteville Tech. at 6pm. Read more.

USCL Hires New Womens Volleyball Coach

USCL has hired a new women's volleyball coach to lead the program for the Fall 2020 season! Mike Van Lieu was previously the head volleyball coach at nearby Indian Land High School where his teams finished 46-17-2 with an 18-0 region record over the last two seasons. In 2018 and 2019, Mike was named region coach of the year coupled with a South Carolina state quarterfinal appearance in 2018. During his tenure at Indian Land, he’s had the privilege of coaching three All-State selections, two All-Star selections, two All-Area selections, two All-Area honorable mention, All-Charlotte Observer 2nd team and eleven All-Region players including a two time Region Player of the Year. Mike also coached a successful Palmetto Region 18’s club team in 2018 and 2019 that finished 27-6 with three gold championships and two runners up. Mike moved to Charlotte in 2017 from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In Baton Rouge, he was the varsity head coach at St John’s School where his 2016 team finished 27-15 overall, 6-2 in district leading to a district championship, a 2016 district coach of the year award and a Louisiana State quarterfinal appearance That team featured an All Metro player, two All Metro honorable mention, three All-District first team, three All-District second team and two All-District honorable mention awards. In Baton Rouge, Mike coached a successful 17’s club team in 2016/2017 that finished 25-5 with a gold championship and two gold runners up. Mike has a BA from the University of Akron. Read more.

Meet the 2018 Lady Lancers Volleyball Team

The 2018 volleyball season is out to a great start for the Lady Lancers team. We are starting the season with two conference wins, one against USC Salkehatchie and the other against Guilford Tech.
