Lancers Sweep USC Salkehatchie in Baseball

The USC Lancaster Lancers Baseball Team earned four region wins as they swept the Indians of USC Salkehatchie.  The Lancers won the first game on Saturday 13 to 1 as Linc Powell earned his sixth win of the spring.  He went five innings on the bump and struck out seven batters and scattered two hits.  The Lancers were led at the plate by Evan Edwards as he had a single and a homerun while driving in four runs.  Ryan Knowles had three hits and Christian Cain added two hits .  Jonathon Sabo, Ryan Mason, Tyler Ackard, and Tyrie Blalock each had a hit.  The second game on Saturday saw the Lancers win 13 to 1.  Freshman Cordes Baker got the nod to start and he went five innings while striking out nine and allowing one run.  Jonathon Sabo added a homerun while driving in three runs as did Ryan Mason with his two hits.  Knowles contributed a hit as did Edwards, Cain, and Ackard.  Tyler Baker added two hits in the winning cause.

Sunday's games saw the Lancers take two more from the Indians.  The scores were 8 to 1 and 3 to 1.  Game three saw sophomore Daniel Willcutt on the mound.  He went six innings while striking out nine batters.  David Pattinson closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh.  Evan Edwards supplied three hits including a homerun while driving in three runs.  Ryan Knowles and Christian Cain had two hits a piece and Sabo, Mason, Ackard, and Lukas Ray contributed a hit a piece.  Walt Ballentine also had a hit and stole four bases during the weekend.  Freshman Trey Sowell started game four and earned his fifth win of the season.  He went seven innings while scattering four hits and striking out five and Pattinson earned the save.  Jonathon Sabo smacked a homerun and a single while driving in two Lancers.  Ballentine also had a hit and a run batted in.  Knowles, Edwards, Mason, Cain, and Tyler Baker had a hit.  Tyler Ackard contributed two singles.  The Lancers play at home this weekend against Louisburg College.  The games start on Saturday at 1:00 and 12:00 on Sunday.
