USC Lancaster Announces the Addition of Women's VolleyballMarch 18, 2015
The University of South Carolina Lancaster is proud to announce the addition of Women's Volleyball as an intercollegiate athletics program to begin in the Fall of 2015. The most recent era of athletics program at USC Lancaster began in the Fall of 2006.With the addition of volleyball, USC Lancaster will offer 4 intercollegiate sports. Dr. Fernanda Burke
and Professor Darris Hassell
, faculty at USC Lancaster both with extensive experience with volleyball, will serve as head coaches in the inaugural year. Practice and play are slated for Buford High School.
USC Lancaster Dean, Walter Collins, stated, “We are excited about the inaugural year of this program. The addition of women’s volleyball will not only allow local talent to continue playing at the collegiate level but will allow us to reach beyond our traditional service area to recruit students who might not know much about our campus. Currently, approximately two-thirds of USC Lancaster’s student-athletes come from beyond our traditional six-county service area.”
The USC Lancaster Lancers are part of Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which is one of the most prestigious regions in the NJCAA for competition and academics. Students at USC Lancaster benefit from committed professors and dedicated support staff and a spectrum of student services including Academic Success and Writing Center for tutoring assistance, Counseling and Career Services and the Gregory Health and Wellness Center.
